Saudi Arabia to host for WTTC 22nd Global Summit

Global Summit in Riyadh to take place in late 2022

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) which represents the global Travel & Tourism sector, announces that its 22nd Global Summit will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, at the end of 2022.

WTTC’s annual Global Summit is the world’s most influential and Travel & Tourism event. Saudi Arabia has been leading a new global approach to ‘redesign tourism’ and this summit in Riyadh will see industry leaders gathering with key government representatives to drive support for the sector’s ongoing recovery, moving it to safer, resilient, inclusive and sustainable future.

The event in Saudi Arabia will follow the next highly anticipated Global Summit which is taking place in Manila, Philippines, from March 14-16, 2022.

“Since the very beginning, when the pandemic brought international travel to an almost complete standstill, Saudi Arabia has shown its total commitment to our sector, ensuring it has remained at the forefront of the global agenda,” Julia Simpson, WTTC President & CEO said at the Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

“It has been instrumental in leading the recovery of a sector which is critical to economies, jobs and livelihoods around the world. For that we are grateful and want to recognise their incredible efforts by bringing the Global Travel & Tourism sector to the Kingdom next year,” she added.

“I welcome the decision to choose Saudi Arabia as the host country for the next WTTC in 2022. This is a critical forum for the private sector and government to come together to redesign tourism for the future, and it is fantastic to hold this event in the Kingdom. This is recognition of Saudi leadership to help the global tourism sector recover, and importantly, become more sustainable. I look forward to welcoming all WTTC members next year,” Al Khateeb, Minister for Tourism for Saudi Arabia said.

Research from WTTC shows the Middle Eastern Travel & Tourism sector is set to grow by 27.1 pc this year ahead of Europe and Latin America. The research also shows that if governments prioritise Travel & Tourism, jobs in the sector could reach 6.6 million in 2022, approaching pre-pandemic levels.

Invest, Finance & Restart: Tourism Investment Summit, November 1-2 at ExCeL, London

The International Tourism and Investment Conference (ITIC) will hold, in partnership with World Travel Market (WTM London), its hybrid (in-person and virtual) Global Tourism Investment Summit on the theme Invest, Finance & Restart.

The summit, which will cast new perspectives and insights on the restart of the global tourism industry, will take place on November 1, 2021, Day 1 of WTM London, at the ExCeL, London.

Through this summit, ITIC aims to connect investors with owners or developers of untapped tourism projects as well as under-explored destinations from all over the world. This strategic move will contribute to accelerate the recovery of travel and tourism businesses and restore travellers’ confidence after this unprecedented pandemic.

It will empower the different stakeholders to be ready in the starting blocks for 2022 to fully seize the commercial opportunities that will emerge during the forthcoming revival of the global tourism and travel industry, following the massive Covid-19 vaccination campaigns.

“The Invest, Finance & Restart Summit will pave the way for the transformational paradigm shift that is occurring as tourism will increasingly have to integrate the environmental, health, social inclusion and good governance issues in the future,” says ITIC’s Group CEO, Ibrahim Ayoub.

On November 2, 2021 B2B meetings between project owners or developers and the ITIC team will be scheduled. The ITIC team invites tourism projects owners or developers who are looking for investment to submit their projects so that ITIC can screen them in a Deal Room specifically set up for the purpose.

The ITIC team will provide actionable advice for attendees, striking mutually beneficial agreements and channeling investments into their projects.

“The pandemic has disrupted the world economy, but tourism is a resilient sector. Sure, signs are emerging to demonstrate that the sector continues its resilience and is bouncing back and, indeed, has always bounced back from past crises,” says Taleb Rifai, Chairman of ITIC.
