Switzerland drops negative test for fully vaccinated travellers

One of top destinations for outbound tourism from India, Switzerland has now opened its borders to all fully vaccinated, recovered visitors without mandating any pre-arrival Covid-19 testing, after imposing months of necessary travel protocols. Tourists, who have completed their vaccination, will no longer need to present a negative PCR or Rapid Antigen test before entering Switzerland, says a press release of Switzerland Tourism.

From January 31, the Swiss Federal Council (FC) also reduced the validity period of Covid-19 certificates to 270 days in with EU norms. It also said that travellers coming to Switzerland by plane or long-distance bus services are the only ones who need to fill out the Passenger Locator Form (PLF) and individuals who are vaccinated or have recovered in the last four months are exempt from contact quarantine. Contact quarantine is limited to the end of February. Unvaccinated travellers would need to provide negative Covid-19 test report before entering Switzerland, but follow-up tests 4-7 days after arrival have been abolished.

Yas Island launches new Stay & Play offer

Yas Island Abu Dhabi, one of the world’s leading leisure and entertainment destinations, has launched new offer, Stay & Play, including daily theme park access, free room upgrades, and complimentary in-room PCR tests. Yas Island is also giving upgrades to the next level of room category for all bookings made on its website until February 15, 2022 for stays up to April 30. Families can enjoy a one-night stay at one of Yas Island’s many leading hotels, starting from AED 402 per person per night and features access to all three theme parks viz Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi, scheduled to reopen from February 11, and Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi.

The appealing promotion even features the choice of stay at either Yas Island’s two new hotels, the WB Abu Dhabi and DoubleTree by Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island Residences, says a press communique by Yas Island Tourism.

Thomas Cook, SOTC launch US tour offers

With the United States reopening its borders for Indian tourists with valid visas, travel firms Thomas Cook India and SOTC have launched a range of offers for the destination. The all-inclusive holidays start at INR 160,000 per person and with group tours of 6-14 days with guaranteed departures and escorted by experienced tour managers. They have also launched special experiential tours to witness Cherry Blossom and Mardi Gras celebration.

The tours cover New York, Washington DC, Buffalo, Hershey, and Niagara on the East Coast and San Francisco, Fresno, Las Vegas and Los Angeles on the West, and Orlando. The 11-day Cherry Blossom and Kite Festival tour starts at INR 280,000 per person and takes the tourists to experience Cherry Blossom in Washington DC and San Francisco as well as an illumination tour of Las Vegas. The 8-day Mardi Gras tour, starting at INR 277,000 covers the event in New Orleans as well as a guided tour of the city and Atlanta.

Valentine’s Day at Ain Dubai

World’s largest and tallest observation wheel, standing at over 250 metres, Ain Dubai has launched a special offer for those celebrating the Valentine’s Day next month. Ain Dubai offers unrivalled and unforgettable social and celebratory experiences as well as 360-degree views of Dubai, set in the middle of Bluewaters, an island destination. The wheel has 48 passenger cabins with a total capacity of over 1,750 visitors at a time.

The Valentine’s Day offer at Ain Dubai includes a private 45-minute yacht experience to take in the sights of the sea with bottle of bubbly and bites, with the option to have a personalised lit up message emblazoned on the wheel. Ain Dubai, according to a press release, offers exceptional private dining experience, featuring two 38-minute rotations with in-cabin service of a three-course menu featuring items such as beetroot cured salmon gravalax, Australian black angus flank steak and New York Cheesecake.

Emirates resumes flights to South Africa

Emirates Airlines says it will shortly resume flights to South Africa, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya and Zimbabwe. The move comes after UAE relaxed travel bans which had been imposed as a result of the spread of Covid-19 Omicron variant. The Gulf carrier will offer daily flights between Dubai and Johannesburg from January 29, rising to double daily from February 1. Daily flights will also resume to both Cape Town and Durban from February 1. Meanwhile Emirates will operate 10 flights per week to Nairobi from January 29, daily flights to Addis Ababa from January 30, five flights per week to Dar Es Salaam from January 30, and six flights per week to Harare (via Lusaka) from January 30.
