Thailand launches “Phuket is now open” marketing campaign

Tourism Authority of Thailand in partnership with the King Power International Group, has launched a new marketing campaign, “Phuket is now open”, under the theme of ‘Amazing Thailand, Now even more Amazing’.

“The campaign forms part of the Royal Thai Government’s efforts to prepare the island ready to welcome back fully vaccinated visitors under the ‘Phuket Sandbox’ model from July 1, 2021,” said Tanes Petsuwan, TAT deputy governor for marketing communications.

Placing emphasis on sports tourism, the “Phuket is now open” campaign is launched with a TVC ‘Amazing Moments in Phuket’ that features three of Leicester City FA Cup 2021 winners – James Maddison, Harvey Barnes and Kelechi Iheanacho – to convey a message of how Phuket is ready to welcome back international visitors.

While sharing memorable experiences that await all visitors in Phuket through the three Leicester City FC players, the TVC also sends out emotional memories with postcard images of sporting activities such as scuba diving, snorkelling, surfing, sailing, parachuting and atriathlon, as well as natural attractions, the old town, and cuisine.

The final official details of the Phuket Sandbox model are currently under review by the Royal Thai Government, but the initial information is already announced.

Covishield-vaccinated Indians not required to quarantine in South Korea, says envoy

South Korea has decided to withdraw the compulsory two-week quarantine guidelines from July 1 and only those Indians who have been vaccinated with the double dose of the Covishield Covid-19 vaccine will be able to enter the country freely. Those who are vaccinated with Covaxin will have to follow quarantine guidelines for two weeks.

“The South Korean government has decided to withdraw the mandatory two-week quarantine if individuals have fully vaccinated. There is no need to serve a mandatory quarantine if the person took Covishield, but those vaccinated for Covaxin are required to serve a two-week quarantine,” South Korea's envoy to India Shin Bong-Kil said.

Noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been vaccinated with the home-grown shot of Covaxin, the envoy said that the restrictions are only meant for the general public and not for heads of state and high dignitaries.

“We have seen that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken Covaxin and if PM Modi wants to visit Korea at any point of time he can visit Korea without quarantine. High ranking officials, for example, if Chief of Army Staff India visited Korea, he does not need to be in quarantine,” the envoy also said.

Wristband trackers mandatory for arriving Indians with silver residency permit to UAE

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is now allowing entry to the silver residency permit holders, in addition to gold permits from India. Apart from India, the UAE is also allowing passengers with silver residency permits from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka to fly to the country.

Issuing a notification in this regard, the UAE’s general civil aviation authority has said that the travellers who are eligible to visit from these countries will have to wear a monitoring and tracking device and it is mandatory for all while travelling to UAE.

As per this new update, this tracking device will not tighten the norms for visitors from India as the UAE makes you wear the bracelet for the 10-day quarantine. However, the air passengers will have to undergo an RT-PCR test on the fourth day and then the eighth day. If the results come negative, then they can take off the bracelet and are free to travel anywhere inside the UAE.

Mauritius will reopen for international travel from July 15

Mauritius will again welcome international travellers from July 15, 2021. The island will reopen in phases during 2021 and the first phase, from July 15 to September 30, 2021, will enable vaccinated travellers to enjoy a resort holiday on the island.

Holidaymakers will be able to enjoy facilities within their chosen resort premises, including the swimming pool and beach. If guests stay over 14 days and have negative PCR tests during their stay in the resort, they will be able to explore the island’s attractions. However, for shorter stays, they may leave the resort earlier and travel back home. A list of pre-approved Covid-19 safe resorts is also available.

Travellers to Mauritius aged 18 years or over must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. They must undergo a PCR test between five and seven days before departure and a negative result is required to travel to the island. Travellers will also have a PCR test on arrival at the airport in Mauritius and on day 7 and 14 of their resort holiday, as applicable.

For Phase two, from the October 01, 2021, vaccinated travellers will be allowed entry without restrictions upon presentation of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departure. Unvaccinated travellers will be subject to 14 days in-room quarantine for both Phases one and two until further notice.

The announcement follows the acceleration of the vaccination campaign and the progress made towards herd immunity by the end of September. Frontliners of the tourism industry were prioritised during the vaccine rollout. This is an attempt to enable a prompt and safe restart of the Mauritius tourism industry.
